Trailer Video Monitoring and Localization System

The solution developed by Omtech in cooperation with BCS is a comprehensive video monitoring and GPS localization system designed to secure trailers transporting goods of increased value and theft risk. The system provides continuous supervision of the cargo both during transit and while stationary.

Purpose and Scope

The system addresses modern transport threats, including theft carried out while the vehicle is in motion. Traditional passive security measures are insufficient in such scenarios, as the driver is often unaware of an incident until it is too late. Video monitoring enables real-time visibility for the monitoring center and immediate operational response.

System Architecture

The system integrates within a single environment:

  • video surveillance,
  • GPS localization,
  • video and event recording,
  • anti-sabotage protection,
  • autonomous backup power supply.

This integration ensures full control over the trailer throughout the entire transport route.

Video Monitoring

The system uses three 4-megapixel cameras, providing high-quality video in both daytime and nighttime conditions. Cameras monitor critical areas of the trailer:

  • both sides of the trailer,
  • rear loading doors.

Infrared (IR) illuminators, invisible to the human eye, enable effective night monitoring without the need for additional external lighting.

Video surveillance delivers significantly more information than a single GPS location point, enabling visual assessment and detailed incident analysis.

Recording and Data Transmission

The core component of the system is the BCS-L-MNVR0401-A-4P-4G-WiFi mobile IP recorder, featuring:

  • four IP channels,
  • integrated 4G modem,
  • GPS module,
  • Wi-Fi interface.

The recorder synchronously stores video footage and location data, creating coherent, time- and location-aligned evidential material.

GPS Localization

The system uses a dedicated LE-820 localization transmitter, designed for vehicle and trailer tracking. The device is certified for e-TOLL and SENT-GEO systems. GPS data is integrated with live and recorded video, enabling combined analysis within a single system interface.

Protection Against Interference and Sabotage

The system includes mechanisms for detecting tampering attempts:

  • alarms triggered by opening device enclosures,
  • detection of theft or equipment damage attempts,
  • immediate alarm transmission to the system operator.

These features ensure operational continuity and rapid identification of sabotage attempts.

Backup Power and Operational Continuity

The system is equipped with a power buffer, enabling up to 8 hours of continuous operation without power from the tractor unit. The solution provides:

  • energy independence,
  • protection against deep battery discharge,
  • configurable automatic shutdown after a defined time following ignition off.

After complete battery depletion, the system resumes recording within up to 5 minutes after the tractor–trailer unit is started. Full battery recharge after an 8-hour stop is achieved during approximately 7.5 hours of driving.

Evidential and Operational Value

Recorded video footage constitutes high-quality evidential material suitable for use by:

  • law enforcement authorities,
  • insurance companies,
  • security and operations departments.

The system enables real-time detection of theft attempts and objective documentation of incidents.

Integration with TAPA-Compliant GPS Monitoring

The video monitoring system is a natural extension of GPS monitoring compliant with TAPA TSR requirements. The combination of both solutions provides complete control and protection of the cargo at every stage of transport by linking location data with visual evidence.

Full Customization

The system is fully customizable and can be tailored to specific customer requirements. This flexibility allows the solution to be precisely adapted to fleet structure, cargo characteristics, and operational security requirements.
